Movie Review: Crazy, Stupid, Love

MOVIE INFO

At forty something, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream-good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his "perfect" life quickly unravels. Worse, in today's single world, Cal, who hasn't dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirty something player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). -- (C) Warner Bros

REVIEW:

Crazy, Stupid, Love is one the rarest Hollywood Romantic Comedy film that is sensible, melodramatic and funny.

I enjoyed watching the film as it tackles different kinds and situations about LOVE. Its not the typical Romantic films about couples. It goes into the context of Marriage and Mature Love. The film may actually work as a family drama as it focuses on the trials that Cal and Emily Weaver is experiencing as a couple and their relationship towards each other after Cal discovered that Emily was cheating on her.

The story progresses as Cal met Jacob (who became his best pal. Jacob played a vital role in Cal's life by teaching him to reinvent himself and find his lost manhood. The story of twist and turns makes Crazy, Stupid, Love a perfect ride of fun, love, and drama.

The plot at first might be quite sloppy but as the story progresses, it gets more interesting and worth-watching.

I love how the Director and Writer played with the script. Its not too cliche and fairy-tale type. It is actually more of realism where everyone could somehow relate. From marriage, to average love, to flings and even puppy love.

I loved the Characters of the story. They were great in their own terms. The casts is undeniably talented. Both Julianne Moore and Emma Stone are stunning. Steve Carell did great to his portrayal as a father who wanted to fight for his failing marriage. Ryan Gosling's presence added up a spicy flavor to the film with his Brad Pitt-inspired aura.

Overall, Crazy, Stupid, Love is actually a wholesome film about fighting for the one you love against all odds. The film teaches us to stand up for the persons we loved. They maybe our family, our friends and even our special someone.

It is a modern adult story that is somehow appealing to youngsters. Just right formula to be One of Hollywood's Most Sensible Romantic Comedy Film.

I totally recommend this film to everyone.

Movie Review: BEASTLY

GENRE: Romantic, Science-Fiction

Synopsis:

Kyle (Alex Pettyfer) thinks he is God's gift at his high school. He plays a prank on a fellow high school student, Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen) who, unbeknown to him is a witch. Kendra teaches him a lesson by putting a curse on him making him as beastly on the outside as he is on the inside. He has one year to find someone to fall in love with him or stay like that forever.

Director: Daniel Barnz
Writers: Daniel Barnz (screenplay), Alex Flinn (novel)
Stars: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen

REVIEW:

Beastly was a barely feel-good romantic film that could easily be forgotten and not worth to be watched again. It is just like watching an ordinary romance between an ugly beast over a charming woman induced with Modern twist.

Yes, it is a MODERN DAY BEAUTY AND THE BEST but it lacks magic, chemistry and even the vital factor of making this film even more appealing as romantic. Beastly is also a science-fiction one drooling over the cliche reality one could fall in love with a beast.

However, the mood and the characters in the story fairly did well helping the whole movie to survive from a complete trash. Thanks to ALEX who is so hot and attractive despite him being in those nerve-studded body and face. And of course, an average performance from PINAY PRIDE and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL STAR, Vanessa Ann Hudgens. In fairness, Vanessa was stunning in the film. However, the ordinary performances of the main casts especially the leads weren't enough to bring it to the cut or even the average line.

The story was kinda lame and shallow considering ALEX was being punished by a WITCH turning him into a more or less BEAST look. Then, here comes Vanessa... falling in love with Alex despite his looks. Kinda an overused plot for centuries. What is disappointing is that the CLIMAX and the RESOLUTION is so weak that you couldn't even identify whats the catch and whats the problem. The storyline was also compromised with a more or less cheap production and setting. The movie ended with just a short notice leaving no impact at all.

Indeed, this is a feel-good movie with nothing special or extraordinary about it and is worth watching for one time only. But hey, this film isn't bad at all. Its not just great.

PS: Some reviews stated that BEASTLY was a Book adaptation. Whatever it is... Fans of such must be contained in such verbal adaptation than the visual one.
